What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Manukan Island is a beautiful tropical paradise offering clear waters, sandy beaches, and excellent snorkeling opportunities. Visitors appreciate its accessibility from Kota Kinabalu and the variety of water activities available. However, some reviews mention concerns about litter in the water and the island becoming crowded on weekends.
"Lovely island. It can get busy on weekends and public holidays. Lovely sandy beach and good to snorkel when there hasn’t been heavy rain. There is a choice of two places to eat to match a variety of pockets. There is a 1.5km trail along the island to sunset point which takes you through the jungle, in parts it is in disrepair but it is passable. You are likely to see small skink lizards along the path and if lucky may see one or two monitor lizards."
Derek Heath
"Well ... to be frank, this beautiful island is already so damaged by people. The water was not so clear, but there we still some fishes in it even in the very shallow areas. Only a part of the long beach was open, others were closed due to"low tide" -- as the life guard told me.
What really disappointed me was rubbish present in the water, floating everywhere where I was snorkeling. Is anybody cleaning that at all? What do they take 25 RM from foreign tourists for?"
Joachim M Werdin
"Great place to swim and spectacular snorkeling.
The second largest island on the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park cluster of islands, Manukan Island Resort is just a 15-minute boat ride away from Kota Kinabalu. Experience the beauty of the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park and enjoy sun, sea and sand surrounded by the natural surroundings."
