Kenyir Elephant Conservation Village (KECV) di Jalan Felda Aring, Tasik Kenyir. Kalau pegi zoo, anak-anak tak berpeluang nak tengok gajah dekat-dekat.

Reviews Summary

Visitors often praise the Kenyir Elephant Conservation Village for its unique opportunity to get close to elephants and enjoy the serene rainforest setting, especially during the afternoon bathing sessions. However, some express concerns regarding the welfare of the elephants, noting that they are chained and questioning the conservation practices. The entry fee for non-Malaysians is also noted as being on the higher side.

"It is about a little more than an hour out of Terengganu’s centre; and while it might feel wild to take on that much mileage just for one tick off your itinerary, the place is alot more accessible than you think- especially if you hail a ride (the rates are not as punishing as you might imagine).

Side note though, when you’re here, do not anticipate big-ticket excitement and the typical standard tourist thrills. The words ‘conservation village’ are, after all, part of its name; and while elephant feeding and bathing sessions are available, there is an absence of long rides, performances, physical touching of the elephants, or even highly unnatural tricks that may take a toll on the elephants’ well-being. Here, the elephants are looked after by mahouts, and there is visceral trust between the two that is noticeable, even at a glance."

"Tucked deep within the rainforest near Kenyir Lake, the Kenyir Elephant Conservation Village feels less like a sanctuary and more like a luxury retreat for elephants who’ve retired from jungle life. Spread across 256 hectares of lush terrain, it’s a place where nature, mist, and gentle giants coexist in tranquil rhythm.

Here, elephants roam, bathe, and occasionally redecorate the landscape with impressive enthusiasm. Mahouts tend to them with quiet care, scrubbing, feeding, and chatting as if they’re old friends.. which, in a way, they are. Watching these moments up close is oddly grounding, like nature reminding you who the original locals were.

The surrounding serenity is unmistakably Kenyir.. pristine rainforest wrapping the hills, hornbills soaring across the canopy, and the occasional trumpet echoing through the valley. The suspension bridge gives a breathtaking view of the jungle below, where the rhythm of streams and elephant calls blend into something that feels ancient yet deeply peaceful.

KECV was established to protect and rehabilitate elephants displaced by development, offering medical care, space, and more mud baths than any spa on earth."

"As a non Malaysian the entry fee is quite expensive. We paid 170 RM for a family of four (15 RM up to 6yo, 35 RM 7-12, 60 RM for adults)

There are three attractions to see:

1. A walkway and hanging bridges trough the area.
2. The interactive area where you can pet, feed and ride on elephants
3. The afternoon bath of the elephants

While we walked trough the park we were wondering, why the elephants are all standing separate and not together. The reason is they are all chained up on approximately 10m long chains.

The only elephants that can walk without chains are the ones in the interactive area. But instead of chains they are penetrated with a pickaxe like tool if they don't follow the instructions of the local guides.

To us, it all seemed quite cruel and not at all conservatory or appropriate to these beautiful animals."
