What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Manukan Island offers beautiful beaches and clear waters, making it a popular day trip destination. However, visitors have expressed disappointment with the amount of plastic pollution and the high prices for food and drinks on the island. Despite these concerns, many still find it a worthwhile escape for its natural beauty and water activities.
"We visited here last weekend. Beautiful crystal clear water, soft sand, PLASTIC everywhere - in the ocean and on the sand. This was extremely disheartening to see. If you wish to snorkel with plastic bottles and bits of plastic, then I suggest you visit."

"Very very nice island it is so unfortunate that there is plastic and garbage in the beautiful south China sea very sad and they make you pay conservation like island conservation fee and before we pay that we said are you gonna do something about the plastic and the cleanup she said yes that’s something that happens and I’m like because it looks like the island has not been cleaned for many many years!
The island is beautiful there’s a restaurant which charges an exorbitant rate for beer for half a pint it’s 35 ringgit !! that’s like over $12 Canadian for a half a pint absolutely outrageous!
I would visit this island again but I would bring my own beer definitely and sit on the beach and drink !
It’s not that I don’t wanna support local businesses which I do but to charge that it would be almost $25 for a pint and I’m sorry but that is just a little bit way too much! We got here a little bit late in the afternoon and I went to go order food at this restaurant that I’m at and they ran out of food so there’s no food available until after five but that would be more for the people that are locally staying here like you can rent beach villas here I think? So not the beer was super expensive but they ran out of food 🥘
Anyway great island 🏝️ great news lots of trees in a jungle like setting !

"We had a lovely family trip here for a day, enjoying snokelling and the beach. However, the seabed was not as clean as expected and by afternoon it was crowded. A lovely area to escape from the city life. A short trip to the island by bot from Jesselton Point Jetty."
