What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about 1 Utama's immense size and the sheer variety of shops, dining, and entertainment options, calling it a 'city under one roof.' While the layout can be overwhelming, the mall is praised for its cleanliness, good signage, and family-friendly attractions like the NextGen Theme Park. Some note that parking can be tight and the mall is older, but its comprehensive offerings make it a must-visit destination.
"Some shopping malls focus on many shops to patronize. Some shopping malls are more family oriented and focus more on restaurants, food stalls and eateries to give families a smorgasbord of food choices. 1Utama is a shopping mall that gives us multiple choices, including various shopping outlets for those who want to shop to their heart’s content; plenty of restaurants, food stalls and eateries for the food enthusiasts; and even a “rainforest” for nature lovers. 1Utama has almost it all and then some. Quite likely one visit would not do justice to this humongous place."

"My childhood mall since 1995. They used to have Intencity (video arcade), Ikea and the very first modern TGV cinemas. That time was considered one of the modern cinemas. Those days, GSC didn’t exist yet. GSC was founded in 1997 with the merger of Golden Communication Circuit and Cathay Organisation. I still remember Maruzen, the Japanese bookstore in Aeon. Those days there were no High Street. It was Promenade and open retail section for bars and night life (if I’m not mistaken - I didn’t go there, was too young). I still remember the big Radio City sign flashing over the LDP highway. 1 Utama used to be one of the largest mall in Malaysia back then (referring to 1995) if its wasn’t the largest. Those other mega malls came later. As for Aeon, the main tenant, the departmental store use to situated at one end (current location at First Avenue) whereas the supermarket is located at the other end (towards Promenade- TGV side)
Then in 2003, 1U have expanded and the new wing existed. Some main tenants were MPH book store, which I remember it covers 2 story lots. (Now the upper floor is Mr DIY and the lower floor is Decathlon). The new wing used to have the Zoo. (Between the new wing and the high street). Now it becomes Flow- Rider. On the LG floor, they used to have Giant then Cold Storage and finally Jaya Grocer. As for the old wing, Aeon Arena food court was formed at LG.
Then in 2011, the old wing were renovated and Aeon were relocated. TGV cinemas were also renovated.
And then in 2018, 1U decided to extend those retails right until the MRT station. But I still remember those days before COVID, most of the retails were vacant. Now with that extension that is called 1 Utama E Street that focus mainly on Korean stuff. It is also called K District. At night, the vibe is colourful.
Today, as at 2025, it remains one of the largest malls in Malaysia. With more and more of other malls coming in and other “dying” malls in other parts of PJ, 1 Utama still remains one of the go-to malls that is very active. Hardly see any vacant retail slots (unlike other malls) and it is interesting to look forward into further expansion to become the largest mall in Malaysia or one of the largest malls in the world.."
