Reviews Summary
Reviews for Cameron Highlands Trail 9/9A Robinson are mixed, with many noting the trail's unmaintained state and the presence of litter at the waterfalls. While Robinson Waterfall is considered impressive, its beauty is often marred by rubbish. Trail 9A is frequently described as overgrown and difficult to navigate.
"TRAIL CLOSED FOR MONSOON SEASON
25 Oct 2025
Trail was closed, not sure if its all of them but we did Trail 5, Trail 6 and down Trail 4 to the Petik Waterfall instead. The moss through the forest and the Trails was stunning. When we came out of Trail 4 it also had the same sign..."
Victoria L.
"The Robinson waterfall is pretty impressive (a real waterfall compared to others). Maya waterfall is even bigger, the trail down there a bit slippery but you can make it. Don't try trail 9A, because the path is mostly overgrown. Trail 9 is nice, it might be nice, to do the trail upwards, which means that you get a taxi/grab that drives you to the junction main road/road to BOH teaplantation and then you'll finish the trail being back in the village."
Tina Honegger
"Trail 9 takes about half hour each way to the waterfall. It's fairly easy and today it was pretty dry.
Rubbish seems to collect in the water and it's fairly odourous. Once you get to the bottom of the waterfall again rubbish everywhere.
Forget having a refreshing dip."

🚶 Solo Travelers
Be prepared for potential leeches and slippery conditions. While the trails are generally free, carrying a basic first-aid kit is always a good idea. Enjoy the solitude, but remain aware of your surroundings.

Navigating Unmaintained Trails
When venturing onto less-maintained trails, it's crucial to be prepared. Wear sturdy hiking boots with good grip, as mud and dampness are common. Long pants can protect against scratches and leeches. Always inform someone of your hiking plans and expected return time. The beauty of the untouched jungle is undeniable, but safety must come first.
If you encounter a section that feels too risky or is heavily overgrown, don't hesitate to turn back. There are often alternative, better-maintained trails nearby that offer similar natural beauty without the extreme hazards.
The State of the Waterfalls
Maya Waterfall, accessible via Trail 4, is noted as being even larger than Robinson. While the trail down can be slippery, it's generally considered manageable. Similar to Robinson, the presence of litter can be an issue, impacting the pristine natural setting.
Visitors seeking a pristine, clean waterfall experience might be disappointed. The natural beauty is present, but the impact of human waste is a recurring concern. It highlights a need for better waste management and visitor responsibility in these natural areas.
Weekend Crowds in Cameron Highlands
Travelers often advise skipping Cameron Highlands on weekends if possible. If a weekday visit isn't an option, aim for very early mornings to beat the rush. Even then, popular spots might still see a steady stream of visitors. The tranquility of the highlands can be hard to find during peak times.
Consider exploring less-hyped trails or visiting attractions slightly off the main tourist path to find more peace. Planning your itinerary around weekdays can significantly enhance your experience and allow for a more relaxed exploration of the natural beauty.
