"Hulhumalé is a planned city in the Maldives, designed with modern infrastructure and a well-organized mix of residential, commercial, and leisure spaces. It is conveniently located just a 10 to 15-minute drive from Velana International Airport, making it an ideal stopover for travelers heading to other islands.
The eastern side of Hulhumalé boasts stunning beaches with soft white sand, perfect for relaxation and water activities. It is a great destination for budget-conscious travelers, offering affordable hotels and guesthouses. I stayed at Beach Breeze & Spa and Plamscape on Dhigga Magu Road, located on the eastern side of Hulhumalé. The beach was right opposite the hotels, adding to the charm of my stay.
One of the key advantages of Hulhumalé is its accessibility—being close to the airport allows easy transfers to various islands. The city also features a diverse range of restaurants and cafés, where you can enjoy both authentic Maldivian cuisine and international dishes.
I had a wonderful experience in Hulhumalé. One memorable incident stood out to me—on my way to the airport, I accidentally left my backpack on a scooter parked by the roadside. When I arrived at the airport, I realized my mistake and immediately called my tour operator. To my amazement, when he went to check, the backpack was still there, untouched. This highlighted the safety and honesty of the local community. Another remarkable aspect of Hulhumalé is the road etiquette—vehicles rarely honk, and drivers always stop for pedestrians to cross. Interestingly, I rarely saw police around, yet everything felt orderly and peaceful.
Hulhumalé is a fantastic destination with modern conveniences, beautiful beaches, and a welcoming atmosphere. Whether you're staying for a few days or just passing through, it offers a great blend of comfort, accessibility, and local charm."
