Umberto, the passionate historian and archaeologist managing the Malta at War Museum in Birgu, gave an interesting and …intense… tour of the air raid shelters used when Italian and German armies incessantly bombed the island during WW2. If I remember facts correctly, over a 2 year period, Malta was bombed 3000 times - that is multiple raids a day! People would have 15 minutes of panic as they sc...

Spend an unplanned day in Malta with us 🇲🇹 First stop was Birgu, to visit the Malta at War museum. We had a very passionate yet sobering tour guide who led us through the underground WWII air shelter and showed us the realities of war. (Shoutout to Umberto). Then we walked the streets of Birgu which had recently had a festa. I love how many plants the locals put outside and all of the different...

"Absolutely amazing museum. The tunnels were unbelievable. The guide was so knowledgeable and explained everything so well. We learnt so much about what happened during the time of the constant bombing of Malta and were shown around many parts of the war tunnels. Living , and dying people and babies being born. Doctors operating on the sick and injured. All those people were packed like sardines in there. It was bleak but fascinating. Thoroughly recommend visiting. Worth every Penny of the €12per person. Amazing value."
