"Wow wow wow. What a fantastic swimming spot. It was the perfect place to maladaptive daydream being a mermaid! If you have the chance to scuba dive, please do it and then come back to this review and let me know what it was like because I wish that I had of scuba’s but alas I am a little pansy."

Divers can explore underwater caves, dramatic rock formations, and vibrant marine ecosystems. Many visitors describe the experience as 'heaven' and a 'gateway to a vast underwater paradise.' TikTokInstagram

For those who prefer to stay closer to the surface, snorkeling in the Blue Hole offers a glimpse into the rich underwater life. The clear waters allow for excellent visibility, revealing seagrass meadows and a variety of fish. It's a stark contrast to the 'scammed' feeling some report at other popular lagoons, making the Blue Hole a truly authentic experience. InstagramReddit

It's highly recommended to bring your own snorkeling gear or rent it locally to fully immerse yourself in this aquatic wonderland. Experienced divers can also explore the nearby Inland Sea, connected by a natural tunnel, for an even more diverse diving adventure. Instagram

The Legacy of the Azure Window

While the Blue Hole Dwejra is a major draw, its proximity to the former Azure Window adds a layer of poignant history to the site. The iconic natural arch, a symbol of Gozo, tragically collapsed into the sea in 2017. Instagram+1

Today, visitors can stand on the same spot where the Azure Window once stood, reflecting on the power of nature and the impermanence of even the most majestic formations. The remnants serve as a reminder of the dynamic geological forces that shape our coastlines. Reddit

Despite the loss of the arch, the surrounding cliffs, sea, and waves remain, offering a powerful and moving experience. The area around the Blue Hole continues to be a place of natural wonder, inviting contemplation and appreciation for the enduring beauty of the Maltese archipelago. Reddit

Navigating the Rocky Coastline

Accessing the Blue Hole Dwejra requires a bit of an adventure. The terrain leading to the water's edge is characterized by rocks, stones, and some steeper sections. This makes it less ideal for very young children or those with significant mobility challenges without assistance. Reddit

To ensure a comfortable visit, wearing sturdy, closed-toe shoes is paramount. Flip-flops or sandals are not recommended due to the uneven and potentially slippery surfaces. This practical advice is frequently shared by visitors who have navigated the area themselves. Reddit

While the walk might be a consideration, most visitors agree that the breathtaking views and the unique experience of the Blue Hole make the effort entirely worthwhile. Planning ahead with appropriate footwear will significantly enhance your enjoyment of this stunning natural landmark. TikTokReddit
