What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Bird Park Malta offers a chance to see a variety of bird species, with many visitors praising the friendly staff and the opportunity to interact with animals like flamingos and owls. However, some reviews express significant concerns about the size of enclosures and the welfare of certain birds, leading to mixed opinions on the overall experience.
"An incredible place to visit. There are so many bird species, and all of them are gorgeous, friendly, and interesting. The lady taking care of them is incredibly friendly, and thoughtful about the birds. She treats them with immense care and love. You can see the birds reactions when she is around, they all get playful and cheery. You can pet an owl and see all sorts of species, from simple chickens, to exotic flamingos, owls and vultures. This place is a must visit. If I could give 10 stars I would!"
Ardesian Binjakaj
"Looks very nice, but many of the cages are small. Was one lady running the whole place. All the cages need a good clean out and fresh water as some was just filled with leaves and no water. Many of the birds have large patches of feathers missing and look stressed. All of the buildings are closed. Takes about 30/40 minutes to walk through. Not expensive for tickets."
Karl
"The place is small and the animals are in small cages most of the time. Some birds are living good outside but some are stressed put and pulling out their feathers. I felt sad when I visited the place. This is extremely unhealthy for these poor birds but I hope they give them good food and love when tourists are not there :/"

Understanding the Animal Welfare Concerns
It's important for potential visitors to be aware of these mixed reviews. Some guests have found the park to be a lovely place with friendly staff who care for the birds, noting that many animals were donated by previous owners. Others, however, have described the experience as distressing, citing instances of birds in cramped, unclean enclosures and animals appearing stressed or injured.
If you choose to visit, consider observing the animals' conditions with a critical eye and supporting organizations that prioritize ethical animal care. The park's description as a 'balanced open eco-system where wildlife thrives' contrasts with some of the more negative feedback, highlighting the importance of individual visitor assessment.
The Conservation Aspect of Bird Park Malta
Many of the animals at the park have been donated by individuals who could no longer care for them. This aspect highlights the park's role in rescuing and rehoming birds, providing them with a new environment. While the park's conservation mission is commendable, it's worth noting that the effectiveness and ethical implications of keeping certain species in captivity are subjects of ongoing discussion. Visitors can learn more about these efforts by engaging with the park staff and observing the environment firsthand.
