What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Le Marin Marina is a massive, popular hub for sailors, praised for its extensive capacity and convenient provisioning options like Auchan. However, visitors often note its basic facilities, unreliable WiFi, and poor public transport, suggesting room for improvement despite its strategic Caribbean location.
"A huge marina, with hundreds (thousands?) of boats on docks, mooring balls, and anchors.
The marina facilities themselves are pretty sparse given the size of the marina, although there are good provisioning options. Service and parts were pretty thin on options here."
Brent Chartrand
"Lots of boats, yachts, catamarans. You can buy a lot of stuff from Auchan what is nearby. Place for garbage, Ckeck in."
Cirt Carmen Dorina
"The Marina du Marin, the largest marina in Martinique and one of the largest on Caribbean islands (allegedly, the largest). An extremely popular spot for sailors (for obvious reasons).
Clearly, it's not a high-modern, top-notch marine. We are in the Caribbean so do not expect too much. Yet:
👎Cons:
- not too much to do with the exception of some restaurants. Especially beach is not present here
- bad public transportation to anywhere
- do ’t expect fast and functioning WiFi here
👍Pros:
- plenty of shops, restaurants, bakeries and market Auchan nearby (yet you can only buy basic stuff there)
- infrastructure is also closed like bathrooms (code needed) or laundry, within walking distance (yet baths are closed at 22:00)
- the fuel dock is "public" so you can spend the night there if you need
- quite spacious parking lots, free.
- you can feel at home since many people are living there on their boats just arriving to the shore by dingy
- plenty of trolleys for easy transport of goods to your yacht
- IMHO Good prices"

Sailing Hub of the Caribbean
The marina's popularity stems from its strategic location and comprehensive, albeit basic, infrastructure. While it may not boast luxury amenities, it offers the practical necessities for boaters. The presence of numerous marine shops, a nearby Auchan supermarket, and laundry facilities makes it a convenient place for provisioning and minor repairs.
However, it's important to manage expectations. The marina's facilities are described as sparse for its size, and services like WiFi are notoriously unreliable. Public transportation is also a significant drawback, making it challenging to explore the wider island without private transport.
Dining and Provisions
Beyond prepared meals, provisioning is a key aspect for many visitors. The presence of an Auchan supermarket nearby is a significant advantage, allowing boaters to stock up on essentials. Complementing this are smaller market stores, ensuring that most basic needs can be met within walking distance of the marina.
It's worth noting that some establishments observe traditional Caribbean business hours, meaning stores and some eateries may close for a lunch break between approximately 12 PM and 2 PM. Planning your shopping trips around these times can prevent disappointment.
Navigating Marina Life
Practicalities at the marina include essential services like bathrooms and laundry, though access often requires a code from the Capitanairie and facilities may have limited hours. The fuel dock is noted as being 'public,' which can sometimes mean it's a place where one might spend the night if needed. For families, the large paved area offers a safe space for children to play, though the absence of a beach directly at the marina means excursions are necessary for swimming.
However, visitors should be prepared for certain inconveniences. The marina's WiFi is widely reported as being extremely weak and unreliable, often not reaching boats. Additionally, public seating is scarce, so bringing your own chairs might be a good idea for comfortable relaxation.
