"pro tips:
- some parts of the trail can be wet and the climbing stair surfaces waterlogged, so wear waterproof hiking shoes. This is not a short hike to be done on sneakers
- this is cloud height so it can get wet, bring protection from water. An umbrella works
- There are very good grocery stores in the village close to the trailhead, get snacks and water. 2 L per person

"Amazing Experience at Mount Pelée! as a solo female hiker. PS I am not a professional hiker.
I absolutely loved my hike up Mount Pelée. The trail is listed on Google as a 1.5-hour route, but in reality, it took me around 5 hours to complete. I tackled Refuge 2, and 3, including the Boucle de la Calderia.
Initially, I planned to go only as far as Refuge 2 and turn back, but after reaching it, I still had plenty of energy (though I hadn't considered that I'd need to descend as well bahaha). The route from Refuge 2 through the Calderia to Refuge 3 took about an hour. The path, highlighted in cream or yellow in the photo, is a mix of flat terrain and rock climbing. There are some steep climbs, and the terrain is very rugged, with ups and downs before you reach a point near Refuge 3. From there the is a part that heads to refuge 2 which is a climb as well. But once this is done. it's all downhill back to Refuge 1 (where the parking lot is).
I started around 11 AM and completed the hike by 4 PM. By the time I reached Refuge 2, I noticed that most other hikers were already heading down. I felt a bit nervous walking alone, especially as I hiked through the Calderia, surrounded by clouds with no one else in sight.
The most challenging part was the rock climbing. Some of the rocks were larger than me, and while the ascent was challenging, the descent was tricky and slippery, especially since the path was wet and muddy (fortunately, it didn’t rain that day). I didn’t take many breaks, as I was worried about getting stuck at the top after dark!
I decided not to attempt the final stretch to Le Chinois because I was hiking alone and wanted to make sure I descended before it got dark.
For this hike, I recommend wearing a good pair of shoes (preferably hiking boots), long pants (I wore shorts, which wasn't ideal), bringing some snacks, and plenty of water. It’s a beautiful but demanding hike—be prepared for a full day of adventure!
Would not advice to go during rainy day.
