Reviews Summary
Visitors find the National History Museum in Mahebourg to be a valuable and free insight into Mauritius' colonial past, housed in a historic building. While the exhibits are praised for their historical significance, some reviewers note the building's need for maintenance and the restriction on photography. Mosquitoes can also be a minor concern.
"Nice, small Museum of Mauritius, that explains the history behind the island from early stages of colonialism to their independence is nicely displayed.
Nice for 1-2 hours of time and free."

"I was absolutely transfixed while exploring the old collectives and reading about the history of mauritius at the museum. The only disadvantage was that some pesky mosquitoes bothered me persistently outside the premises and a bit inside the museum too. This should be taken care of. We never know we have been bitten until the itching arises. However, the respect by the receptionist, the maintenance and vibrant atmosphere made the visit worthwhile. The school kids were sweet and friendly. FYI, there is no entry ticket."

"History well preserved and the different era's of colonialisation. The building needs maintenance and refurbishment to preserve the sight and building."
