Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Half Moon Bay for its stunning coastal scenery, especially during the vibrant autumn pumpkin season. The opportunity for tide pooling and enjoying scenic hikes is a major draw. However, some find beach access limited due to private ownership and note issues with sargassum seaweed and rocky shores.

"A mostly private beach but we parked at buena Vida and had some delicious ‘crows nest cooler’ drinks before snorkeling in the bay and then going back for lunch. Ignore all the people on the road in who try to get you to stop. Snorkeling was incredible - lots of fish and coral in shallow waters in the bay. It was a very windy day so very few people in the water because it was a bit rough, but it meant we had it mostly to ourselves to explore which was great. Definitely bring water shoes as it’s a bit rough and rocky getting into the water"

Phoebe Westwood

"Worst beach I have ever seen. Lot of sargassum and lot of rocks. And of course private!!! I will never come back and I don’t recommend to come here."

Katarina Marhefkova

"Half Moon Bay is beautiful and quiet. There are only a couple of private entrances, but they're easy to find - behind the Bush Romero statue, for example. Further north there is a little more sand, unfortunately the last few years have seen the sargasso diminish the beach almost to nothing along the southern end. To swim or snorkel here, you absolutely must where water shoes or sports sandals - the seabed is very rocky and sharp, and see the note about stingrays below! However, the snorkeling has a lot to recommend, relative to Akumal: it's free, with great visibility, and there is plenty to see: within a few minutes of entering the water we found a large school of fish, several larger fish (including a barracuda) lurking around them, and a yellow stingray. A hunded yards off the coast there's a small reef with tons of activity - we saw a large Southern stingray there. A friend reports seeing turtles on this side in the past as well. The reef is definitely more impressive on the Akumal side, but you can't beat the price and the solitude at Half Moon Bay."
