"Great experience Cancun to Campeche. On time and very comfortable."

"So, out of palanque as of February 2024 the website won't allow you to book online. The station isn't built which means no bathroom or ATM. And they don't have WiFi which means, you can't pay with credit card! I was 40 pesos short and they wouldn't let me on even when I tried to pay in USD. I cannot believe I was denied boarding over 40 pesos,
Make sure to bring cash!!!"

Navigating the Tren Maya Network
While the network is still developing, the existing routes offer a comfortable and relatively efficient way to travel between these popular spots. It's important for visitors to understand that the system is not yet fully complete, meaning some stations might be under construction and amenities like bathrooms or ATMs may be limited. This necessitates a degree of flexibility and preparedness for travelers.
For those planning their itinerary, it's crucial to check the latest operational status of specific routes and stations. The train is designed to be a game-changer for tourism in the region, aiming to provide better connectivity and access to archaeological sites and natural wonders.
Onboard Experience and Amenities
For those seeking enhanced comfort, Premier Class is available, featuring strong air conditioning that ensures a pleasant ride, even in the tropical climate. This class is particularly recommended for longer travel segments. The train's windows offer scenic views of the Mayan jungle and the surrounding natural beauty, turning the journey itself into a part of the travel experience.
While the train aims to provide a modern travel experience, it's important to be aware of the current stage of development. Some stations may still be under construction, potentially impacting the availability of certain facilities. However, the core amenities like the cafeteria and comfortable seating are designed to make the trip enjoyable.
Ticketing and Payment Practicalities
This cash-only policy has led to some travelers being denied boarding for being a small amount short, even when offering alternative currencies. Therefore, ensuring you have enough Mexican Pesos on hand is critical to avoid disappointment. Travelers should also be aware that some stations are still under construction and may not have ATMs, further emphasizing the need for cash.
It's advisable to check the latest ticketing procedures and station operational status before your travel date. The system is evolving, and while it promises to be a major facilitator of tourism, understanding these practicalities will ensure a smoother journey.
