"The new Calderitas boardwalk is a real treat to enjoy with family or friends. It's well-maintained, with areas for walking, resting, and taking photos overlooking the sea. The views of Chetumal Bay are spectacular, especially at sunset. There are benches, lighting, and a very peaceful atmosphere. Ideal for strolling, enjoying a marquesita (small drink), or simply relaxing in the sea breeze. A must-see if you're visiting the area!"

"Very pretty. It has a nice view of the buildings of the large houses at the entrance to Calderitas. You can also spend the afternoon there once the sun goes down so you don't get too much sun, or sit on the banks where there are trees. However, there are a lot of broken windows from people who go there to drink and don't take their trash out, so please bring a bag if you go and take it with you. It helps preserve the bay.
They're currently remodeling the Bacalar boardwalk, so you can't drive across it like you used to. If you want to go to the restaurant area, there's likely to be a lot of dust every time the wind blows. You'd have to go around the restaurants at the back to get there. Heading toward the archaeological site of Oxtankah, there's no problem there."

The Calderitas Boardwalk Experience
While the natural beauty and tranquility are major draws, some recent feedback points to challenges with litter. Travelers have noted that the area can sometimes be affected by trash left behind by visitors who treat the sea as a 'bar'. This has led to calls for visitors to be more mindful and to bring their own trash bags to help preserve the bay's pristine condition. Despite these concerns, the overall sentiment remains positive, highlighting the waterfront's potential as a serene and picturesque destination.
It's worth noting that parts of the area, like the Bacalar boardwalk, may undergo renovations, which could temporarily affect access or create dust. However, the main Calderitas waterfront promenade generally remains accessible and enjoyable. The views of the large houses at the entrance to Calderitas also add a unique visual element to the experience.
Capturing the Beauty: Photography at Calderitas Waterfront
Beyond the sunset, the well-designed boardwalk itself provides excellent framing opportunities. Benches offer natural resting points for shots, and the railings create leading lines that draw the viewer's eye towards the expansive bay. The contrast between the man-made promenade and the natural beauty of the water and sky is a recurring theme. For those interested in local life, capturing people enjoying the evening stroll or vendors selling treats can add a dynamic human element to your photos.
While the focus is largely on the scenic beauty, keep an eye out for coastal birds that frequent the bay, offering a chance for wildlife photography. Remember to be respectful of the environment and other visitors. The peaceful atmosphere, especially during off-peak hours, allows for unhurried composition and the capture of truly stunning images.
