Snorkeling is one of my favorite activities to do, and do it in The Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second largest reef barrier in the world was a blast. The Fives offers some tours. You do not need to get into a transfer, and the boat picks you up on the beach. I did the snorkel, which lasted around two hours and was phenomenal. Get on the boat right in front of the hotel, 5 minutes ride, and done...

Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the Mesoamerican Reef for its vibrant marine life and stunning coral formations, calling it a 'beautiful piece of nature.' The mandatory guided tours are seen by many as essential for reef protection, though some find the restrictions frustrating. The affordability of tours and the abundance of sea creatures make it a highly recommended experience.

"Why did Mexico we did a snorkeling tour to see the coral reef. The company that hosted us were very friendly. We did the coral reef then we had some tacos for lunch and we also did a tequila tasting. The coral reef was beautiful we got to see plenty of marine life such as a shark turtle stingray and lots of fun colored fishes. I do appreciate how serious they take keeping the coral reef clean. Highly recommend doing a snorkeling tour."

"The reef is at swimming distance of the beach but CANNOT be accessed independently. They require you to get a guide, boat and wear a lifejacket, under the excuse that "this is to protect the reef".. which is nonsense given the number of boats going there and the associated pollution / crowd generated."

Juliette Vautherot

"One of our best snorkeling experiences so far! The reef is alive with an abundance of fish! We saw barracudas, clown fish, trumpetfish, needlefish, lobsters, tuna and conch shells! This the second or third largest reef in the world (the internet is indecisive about this one!) The cost of the tour was 500 pesos per person, which was a bargain considering that we visited two different sites and the tour lasted more than 2 hours! It was such a shame that I did not have an underwater camera with me! Do not forget yours!"
