What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Cancun fishing charters consistently receive rave reviews for their incredible fishing experiences, with many highlighting the professionalism and friendliness of the captains and crews. Guests frequently praise the abundance of fish caught and the unforgettable moments, such as reeling in sharks or enjoying fresh ceviche made onboard. While most experiences are overwhelmingly positive, some minor issues might arise with communication or specific boat conditions, though these are rarely significant detractors.
"An Incredible Day with Captain Hector, Paco & Alex!
We had an unforgettable fishing trip with Captain Hector and his amazing crew, Paco and Alex. They made the entire experience seamless and so much fun — friendly, professional, and clearly passionate about what they do.
We caught tons of fish, and the highlight of the day was watching our 10-year-old son reel in a 6-foot shark! It was an absolutely epic moment that none of us will ever forget. To top it all off, Paco and Alex made the freshest, most delicious ceviche right on the boat using our catch — honestly the best we’ve ever tasted.
Captain Hector, Paco, and Alex went above and beyond to make it a perfect day on the water. If you’re looking for an unforgettable fishing adventure with a team that truly loves what they do, this is it!"

"On August 20,2025 we had one of the Best Fishing Trips ever.
We researched the Five Top Charters in Cancun, read all the fine print, and decided on “Charter Fishing Cancun”.
Communicating with Fernando the Operations Manager, that we were coming from Houston Texas and what we were looking for.
He assured me that he would set us up with the perfect Captain and Crew.
And that our group of eight would be in For Great Time.
He had Free Transportation pick us up from and back to our Hotel “Planet Hollywood”.
I guess because of our conversations back and forth over two weeks.
Mr Fernando upgraded our Charter Boat from a 38ft to a 40ft Boat.
The Captain Felipe, and Deck Hands Tony and Angle of the “Bill Collector” were amazing.
They trolled for Bonita, and fished for Blue Runners to use as Bait.
And allowed our Group to Reel them in.
The Group ended up catching 10 Barracudas, 6 Grouper’s , and two Trigger Fish.
We can’t say enough about Fernando the Operations Manager, and the Crew, other than we look forward to going back in the future.
And highly Recommend you give “Charter Fishing Cancun a try."

"We had an incredible time on the water with Charter Fishing Cancun in the 38 ft Bertram (Reel Dreams), 8 hour trip. Captain Hector, Alex, and Paco were outstanding from start to finish, creating a fun and relaxed atmosphere while showing high level professionalism as well. We enjoyed sun the entire day and only hit rain once we returned with our catch but by then we were far too happy for it to matter.
They knew the best spots, handled every detail with confidence and made sure we were always in the action. Their knowledge of the local waters was obvious and their enthusiasm fantastic. Thanks to them we caught an amazing mix of fish including barracuda, amberjack, triggerfish, blue runners, and bonito especially considering this was low season (Nov 5th)
A special highlight was Paco’s fresh ceviche made right on the boat from our catch and the two triggerfish. It was honestly one of the best meals of the trip.
Great crew, great vibe, and an unforgettable experience. If you’re looking to fish in Cancun, this team is top tier. And thank you Fernando for sorting it out for us."

For Different Travelers
Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
When booking, communicate your family's needs to the charter company. Ask about the best times for calmer waters and if the crew has experience with children. Bringing snacks, drinks, and plenty of sun protection is essential. The highlight for many families is the excitement of reeling in a fish, and some crews even offer to prepare your catch as fresh ceviche onboard, which is a unique and delicious experience for everyone.
💰 Budget Travelers
Look for charters that offer complimentary hotel pick-up, as this saves on transportation costs. While food might be limited to snacks, bringing your own sandwiches and drinks can significantly cut down on expenses. Remember that the experience of fishing in the Caribbean is often worth the investment, especially if you find a charter that provides excellent value and a memorable day on the water.
🎣 Serious Anglers
Discuss your target species and preferred fishing techniques with the charter operator beforehand. Inquire about the types of lures and bait they use, and whether they offer specialized services like fly fishing charters. The ability to catch and release larger game fish, or to have your catch expertly prepared, adds to the premium experience. A full-day charter will give you the most time to explore different fishing grounds and maximize your chances of landing a trophy catch.

Choosing Your Cancun Fishing Charter
Look for charters with a strong reputation and positive reviews, paying attention to the experience of the captain and crew. Companies like Don Chingon Charters and Kianah's Sportfishing are frequently mentioned for their professionalism and success. Ensure the charter provides all necessary equipment, including bait and tackle, and clarify what is included in the price, such as licenses, water, and potential food preparation.
Boat size is also a crucial factor. Larger boats, like the 55ft Sexy Fish yacht, are ideal for big groups of up to 15 people, offering comfort and space. Smaller boats, such as 24-foot or 30-foot vessels, provide a more intimate experience and can be more maneuverable. Always confirm the boat's amenities, like restrooms, which can be important for longer trips.
What to Expect on Your Fishing Trip
The thrill of the catch is paramount. You'll experience the excitement of reeling in various species, from smaller game fish to larger, more challenging ones. Many charters emphasize catch-and-release for certain species, while others allow you to keep a portion of your catch. A truly special highlight for many is the opportunity to have the crew prepare fresh ceviche on board using your catch, a culinary experience that often receives rave reviews.
Throughout the trip, the crew's expertise and friendly demeanor are key to a memorable day. They are there to assist with everything from baiting hooks to unhooking fish and ensuring everyone, including beginners, has a fantastic time. The stunning Caribbean waters and the possibility of spotting marine life add to the overall adventure.
Targeting Specific Fish in Cancun
If you're looking for a truly thrilling encounter, shark fishing is an option, with many charters practicing catch-and-release to conserve these magnificent creatures. During specific seasons, Sailfish are also present, offering an exhilarating sportfishing challenge. The Kingfish bite is reported to be particularly strong at certain times, making it an exciting target. Even smaller fish like Triggerfish and Bonito can provide plenty of action and are often used as bait for larger game.
The success of your catch often depends on the season, the specific location, and the skill of your captain and crew. Experienced guides know the best spots and techniques for each species, ensuring you have the best possible chance of a successful and memorable fishing trip.
