Reviews Summary

The Museo de la Ciudad de Chetumal offers a historical journey through the region, from Maya civilization to modern times. While some visitors find the entrance fee for foreigners a bit high and note the lack of English signage, many appreciate the opportunity to learn about Chetumal's past. Utilizing translation apps is highly recommended for a comprehensive experience.

"Museo de la Ciudad is a very interesting museum covering Chetumal, Quintana Roo and Maya history. I stumbled upon the entrance on accident, and am glad I entered. 35 pesos for locals and 110 pesos for internationals are both extremely fair prices for what you learn. In 7 halls you are taken through time, from the Mayan empire to modern times and the Cancún-boom starting in the 70s. Highly recommend if you have +-2 hours to kill in Chetumal and are interested in its history
Side note: All information is in Spanish, but easily translatable through Photo Translate"

"A small museum that covers the history of the area around Chetumal. The displays are primarily information boards but there are a few physical artifacts to see as well. Unfortunately, for non-Spanish speakers, all the signage is in Spanish. But, I got through OK using the Google Translate app in camera capture mode. The day I visited, there was no air conditioning - just some fans recirculating the hot, humid air.

As of January 2025, the entry fee for foreign visitors is 110 pesos, which seems a bit high given the small size of the museum and only Spanish signage."
