What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Travelers generally praise the Cozumel ferry service for its frequency and convenience, with many enjoying the onboard amenities and flexible return options. While the journey is usually smooth, occasional rough seas can occur. Bringing a car via cargo ferry is a practical option for longer stays.
"Approx 16 each way.
Can travel one way, with one company and another company on the way back.
They run very often with extra ferries during peak times it seems.
Comfortable, 30 minute crossing, some what on time, friendly."
Slim Shady
"Fast service to Cozumel. You buy your tickets there and there is no set time to return which is perfect if you are a ”go with the flow" traveler like us. They had live music on board and you could purchase drinks.
Next time I visit I plan to use this company again."
Cindy Egan
"Great ferry service.
First class has own upper deck air conditioning rooms.
Upper deck outside in the back has live music and a bar. First class is not needed to go there, but with first class you can board earlier to pick your favourite seat before the rest is boarding.
I recommend the open day ticket so you are flexible on the date and more important on the time you want to take the ferry.
I recommend to take the early ride, as it is less hot to visit the island."

Navigating the Cozumel Ferry System
When considering tickets, while online booking is available, many travelers find purchasing directly at the dock to be straightforward and convenient, even for groups. Be mindful of the 'first class' options; some reviews suggest the distinction might not be significant enough to warrant the extra cost for everyone. For those seeking maximum flexibility, an 'open day ticket' allows you to choose your return time without a fixed schedule, perfect for spontaneous island exploration.
It's also worth noting that the sea conditions can impact the ride. While generally smooth, rough seas can occur, and the ferry staff are experienced in navigating these conditions safely, providing necessary provisions like barf bags if needed. For those planning an extended stay or bringing a vehicle, the cargo ferry from Punta Venado offers a practical solution.
Exploring Cozumel: Beyond the Ferry
Beyond the underwater world, Cozumel provides opportunities for relaxation and adventure. Chankanaab National Park is a must-visit, featuring a beautiful lagoon, botanical gardens, and a replica Mayan village, alongside snorkeling and swimming areas. For those who prefer to explore at their own pace, renting a car or scooter offers the freedom to discover secluded beaches and scenic viewpoints, such as Punta Sur Eco Beach Park, which offers stunning coastal vistas and a lighthouse.
Getting around the island is facilitated by taxis and shared vans, but for comprehensive exploration, especially if you've brought your vehicle via the cargo ferry, driving allows you to access more remote areas and enjoy the island's diverse landscapes. The main town, San Miguel de Cozumel, is the hub for shopping, dining, and experiencing local culture.
