"I have no idea who the Spencers were, but apparently, they were artists. One thing’s for sure—they had good taste and enough money for a little mansion in the heart of Cuernavaca.
The whole city invites you to take slow, unhurried walks. No need to rush. And this house? It gave me the same kind of atmosphere as One Hundred Years of Solitude.
On the first floor, the left wing houses an antique shop, while straight ahead, there’s a lush courtyard where a slightly moss-covered bust of Doña Isabela greets you. That nameplate—so old-fashioned. Nobody in Mexico speaks like that anymore.
The courtyard has a few tables, and somewhere deep inside, someone is brewing coffee that smells unbelievably good.
Upstairs, the rooms are bright and spacious, with a desk and a few… well, art pieces made by one of the Spencers. Hard to describe—just look at the photos, or better yet, visit and see for yourself.
Step out onto the balcony, and right across the street, you’ll see the former convent—its churches still in use today.
