Reviews Summary

Mercado 5 de Mayo is a massive, vibrant market offering an authentic taste of Puebla with incredible variety in produce, meats, and iconic cemitas. While some find it chaotic and lacking in cleanliness, many appreciate its lively atmosphere, fresh goods, and affordable prices, making it a must-visit for a true local experience.

"If memory serves me, this is one of the oldest and biggest mercados in Puebla. It's massive. Located about 5 blocks or so from the Puebla zocalo, you will find produce you likely have never seen. Everything is fresh. The butcher stands are a trip! I imagine it is what a butcher shop was like a hundred years ago in the USA, with animal heads and body parts everywhere. I find the Mexican meats to be excellent, and I wonder about the efficacy of our sanitation paranoia in the States."
