Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the breathtaking, multi-colored lakes of Lagunas de Montebello as a unique natural wonder. The park's administration by local communities is also highlighted as a positive aspect. However, some travelers caution about potential tourist traps, particularly with boat tours, and advise careful clarification of costs and services.

"🙅🏽‍♂️I wouldn't recommend this place at all! It's a big lake & some places at the lake are better than others.

I'm specifically talking about the wooden boats location. You can't swim because there's a $1k peso fine!🤬

It's $250 peso per person to get on the boat, then & only then can you swim in the lake🤦🏽‍♂️. You also have to paddle yourself to the small island or anywhere else you go.

It was 🥶cold, windy & 🌨️sprinkling when we went so we didn't go on the boat. I spoke to others that did go on the boat.

They said they were up sold 🤑another location where it was a cenote they were taken to, they also said it wasn't worth the price & it wasn't a pretty site.

IMO this boat location is a tourist trap bc all you can do is spend more money when you've already spent money to go there. You can't swim or do anything fun without spending more money🤷🏽‍♂️"

Knowledge applied is wisdom

"One of the most beautiful attractions in southern Mexico. Administered by local Zapatista communities who are also coffee growers and strive to protect their natural surroundings. A must go if you’re in Chiapas."

Oliver Peña-Habib

"I would put 5 starts if it weren't for a small insident we had, let me explain; the lagoons are absolutely breath taking, no doubt about that, I have never seen water this blue and this transparent in my life, that is a 5 star. What brings me to rate 4 is the fact that our "tour guide" gyped us, it WAS our fault not asking how much the tour would be and also had 3rds involved, like places to eat. I highly recommend you bring your own food and ask from the very beginning how much it will be and if you don't want your tour guide, bring your own rented car, it's a very poor area so you'll get to all sorts of con artists there.
For use if drone, you have to have a permit, make sure you get it, if not, it will be for nothing, unless you wanna pay $400 USD if you don't have a permit."
