Reviews Summary

Las Coloradas offers a visually striking experience with its unique pink salt lakes, a result of industrial salt production. While the color can be impressive, visitors often find the mandatory, short guided tours to be overpriced and limiting, with restricted access and photography rules. The surrounding industrial landscape and the effort required to get there lead some to believe it's not a must-see destination.

"Drove 2 hours just for this pink lake, but I didn’t know that a tour guide is now mandatory. I ended up finding out the whole tour is kinda lame to be honest.. you only get to visit just a small portion of the lake for 30 minutes to an hour, either by walking or bicycle. I joined a Spanish speaking 1 hour cycling tour because I was the only English speaker and they couldn’t find me an English guide. Tripods, drones, and any professional filming equipment are not allowed around the lake. With the price they charge and the tiny area you’re allowed to see, I find it pretty unreasonable and overpriced..There are way better pink lakes in other countries. I would rate this place zero stars, but sadly that option doesn’t exist."

"Nice place, cool to see once, but not quite the magical pink fairyland Instagram promised. The tour was… fine. We saw salt, heard about salt, stood near salt. The lakes were pink-ish depending on the sun, and the guide was friendly but seemed more excited about lunch than the tour. Worth a stop if you’re nearby — just don’t expect to be spiritually transformed by brine. Bring a hat, it’s hot enough to cook an egg on your forehead."

"Las Coloradas was honestly not really worth the visit, in our opinion. The pink water is interesting — it gets its color from the salt production process — but that’s about it. It’s not a natural lagoon where you can swim or walk around freely. The surroundings feel quite industrial, and the view is limited.

When we arrived, there were dozens of men calling out to offer tours. While they weren’t aggressive, the situation felt a bit intimidating. One man even followed us for a while on a motorbike, trying to convince us to join a tour, which made us feel uncomfortable. Because of that, we decided not to stay long.

We briefly pulled over on the side of the road to admire the pink water from a distance, took a few photos, and left again after about 10 minutes.

All in all, it was interesting to see once, but we wouldn’t recommend going out of your way for it — there are many more enjoyable and authentic spots to explore in the Yucatán."
