"Construction of the 16th century, it was first called "Lágrimas de San Pedro", later "Los Dolores". Since its construction, it was intended as a house of prayer for the most humble population. When it was consecrated to Our Lady of Carmen it received the name it has today; differentiating itself from the Temple of Carmen Alto that served as a house of prayer for the nobility.
Its festivities are linked to the Guelaguetza festivities because upon the arrival of the Spanish the indigenous people already carried out acts of offering on those dates, making it easier to introduce the native population to the religion.
