Reviews Summary

Visitors are pleasantly surprised by the Gran Museo de Chichén Itzá, praising its extensive collection of original Mayan artifacts and free admission. While some construction is ongoing, the museum offers a quiet, informative experience, though it can get hot inside. The lack of clear signage and the need for separate transportation are minor drawbacks.

"The museum seems to be newly renovated. We were a bit concerned we arrived at the wrong place because the parking lot was so empty, but I think maybe the marketing wasn't done well and people did not know about the museum. After entering, we were pleasantly surprised. The artifacts were top notch. Admissions were free. The interior decor was clean and modern. It was really hot, so it would have been more comfortable to have some air conditioning, although the natural space ventilation is already quite good."

"Good museum, and free. As others have said, lots of construction work still (and the finished part is at the far end of the car park entrance). Some good explanation of things found at Chichén Itzá- not sure why it’s not signposted more from the main site.

To get there: technically possible to walk from the main site, but wouldn’t recommend! 30 mins, mainly on a path through the woodland between 2 main roads. Suggest taxi/shuttle."

Caroline H

"Ok so it’s open, free and worth going to visit!! Amazing pieces from Chichen Itza, with paint and stucco as well as some others from Ruta Puc. Google maps is correct for directions go down an access road that looks like it’s just construction but keep going. Look for the white and light blue roof. Entrance is not marked but I’ve put a photo here! Or ask construction guys!
Supposed to be finished in 2025 (ha) but it’s definitely open and worth a visit."
