Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Schuk Toak Visitor Center for its informative exhibits on the Sonoran Desert's geology and biology, and its unique location amidst lava flows and dunes. The sand dunes trail is a highlight for its views, though visitors strongly advise visiting during cooler months due to extreme heat and remembering to bring cash for admission.

"My wife and I live in Puerto Peñasco and visited the Center with friends who were here for the first time. After visiting the museum we went on the sand dunes trail. The ideal time of the year to do the trail is spring, fall and winter, it is not recommended to do it in the summer due to the extreme heat unless you would like to experience a survival of the fittest adventure. Anyway, always take water with you.
The walk towards the dunes is well marked and easy to hike. Once you reach the dunes it is an uphill walk. The higher you get the better the views."

"Very hot. Very informative if you want to learn about the volcanic activity and natural fauna in the region. I found the explanations and descriptions of the early explorers very interesting."

Tovin Benson

"Very nice museum with geological and biological trails and information. A bit off the main highway but stick with it. You can spend an hour or so here and learn a lot. Good video included. Admission is 60 pesos ($3). They only take cash. You can’t get to the craters from here though. That access is West of Sonoyta at km 51 or 52 off highway 2."
