What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Azulik Tulum is celebrated for its breathtaking, unique architecture and deep connection to nature, offering a truly immersive eco-luxury experience. However, many guests find it significantly overpriced for the amenities provided, citing issues with privacy, practical room features, and high dining costs. While visually stunning, the value proposition is a common point of contention among visitors.
"This place was beautiful with great views. Definitely not worth the price though.
Do not expect any privacy. There are no blinds or curtains in your room so you can see everything your neighbor is doing. You will hear every little sound and footstep from your neighbors, so if you’re a light sleeper- good luck getting any rest.
Our room did not have any lights, everything was by candle light- which sure is romantic and all but having a single lamp would have been beneficial many times."

"This place just felt off. For starters we walked into the place and a hotel guest was extremely mad about some service they provided. Love some of the workers but the hotel just wasn’t as expected. I thought when you book a room it would look like the picture. We also weren’t able to go to our room until like 15 min after check in time. I also didn’t like how there is no privacy in the room.. you can see through the blinds. The pillows were dirty upon arrival. The toilet stopped working. Flimsy matches to light candles which is a main light source in room. I felt like the quality of the place doesn’t match with the price you pay for. It looks cool but everything is extremely overpriced. The food there is way too expensive. Your better off going to the taco place across street.. La milpa!"

"Azulik is architecturally stunning - the design is unique and truly beautiful, and you really feel connected to nature. Unfortunately, that’s where the positive part ends.
The room was extremely impractical: there was no light, only candles, which became very inconvenient at night. The toilet was open at the top and completely without lighting, and in the bathtub there was no shower head, just a coconut bowl to pour water over yourself. The bed covers were damaged, which is unacceptable for a hotel in this price range.
There was also no place to hang clothes, which made the stay even more uncomfortable.
Many of the outdoor areas-including tables and even our jacuzzi-were dirty, something that should never happen in a hotel of this price category.
What disappointed me the most was the way the hotel handled my lost room key. I lost it on the way to the beach, and they charged 70 USD for a replacement, even though making a copy costs around 50 pesos. This feels like clear exploitation of guests.
For the extremely high prices, the hotel does not offer the quality you would expect. Azulik may look beautiful, but overall it is highly overrated and not worth the cost."

The Azulik Experience: Nature Meets Luxury
The resort's philosophy centers on reconnecting with oneself and the environment. The open-air designs of the villas, while stunning, mean that privacy can be limited, and sounds from neighboring villas may be audible. This is part of the intended immersive experience, encouraging guests to be present and mindful. The Azulik Uh May art gallery further embodies this ethos, showcasing art and architecture in a natural setting, making the entire property a living masterpiece.
While the aesthetic is undeniably captivating, it's important for visitors to understand that the high price point is for a distinct experience. Reviews often highlight that while the beauty is undeniable, the practicalities of the rooms—such as limited lighting, open bathrooms, and occasional maintenance issues—may not align with the cost for some travelers. However, for those seeking a truly unique, nature-focused escape, Azulik Tulum offers an unforgettable stay.
Navigating Azulik Tulum: Practicalities and Tips
The dining experience at Azulik Tulum, particularly at its signature restaurant Kin Toh, is often described as magical due to its elevated jungle setting. However, it's also frequently noted as being quite expensive. Many travelers recommend exploring the local eateries just across the street from the resort for more budget-friendly and authentic Mexican cuisine. This can be a great way to balance the resort's unique offerings with local flavors.
Privacy is a recurring theme in guest feedback. The open-concept design of the villas means that sound can travel easily between rooms, and visual privacy might be less than expected. For those who are light sleepers or highly value personal space, this is something to consider. Despite these practical considerations, many guests still find the overall experience of being immersed in nature and the resort's distinctive design to be highly rewarding.
