What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Guests consistently praise Barceló Maya Riviera for its exceptional dining, particularly the specialty restaurants, and the attentive service from staff like Carlos López and Essenia Cruz. The adults-only atmosphere, spacious rooms, and ample beach/pool loungers are also highlights. However, some find the evening entertainment could be more varied, and late-night food options are limited.
"This resort is one of the best I have been to and would come back again and again! The Agave restaurant was phenomenal! Specifically the taco bar! Would definitely recommend coming here if you have the chance! Our wonderful servers Condelario, Omar, Juan and Henry were so attentive and kind! The miramar buffet was always amazing as well, so much variety each day never had a bad meal. Damien Tamay was our server most days, he always had a smile on his face and brightened each of our mornings. Amazing experience overall!"

"I recently stayed at this resort and had a mix of great experiences and a few disappointments.
On the positive side, the spa and gym were absolutely amazing—clean, well-equipped, and relaxing. The restaurants that required reservations were top-notch; every meal was delicious and beautifully presented. I also loved that there were always plenty of chairs available by both the pool and the beach, and waiting for drinks was never an issue. A huge plus was the self-service coffee stations—you could grab any kind of coffee, any time of day.
However, a few areas could use improvement. The pool activities were pretty lackluster, with only water aerobics and some ball games, and the sand volleyball court was disappointing—just an inch or so of sand over a concrete slab, causing many people injuries (myself included) during our stay.
It would really help to have an app with show times, location of the shows, and activity schedules since it was hard to know what was happening around the resort. Late-night food options were almost nonexistent - a couple sandwich options with a panini press and mixed nuts. AO had multiple karaoke nights didn’t add much to the evening entertainment lineup. Some smaller details also affected comfort and convenience, like the lack of self-service water stations (you had to go to a bar just for a bottle) and the urinals being oddly tall. The buffet food often wasn’t warm enough, and a microwave in that area would be useful. Our mini fridge barely stayed cold, and there weren’t any “adult” TV channels available in the rooms.
Overall, this resort has a lot going for it with excellent dining, a relaxing spa, and great service. With a few updates to the activities, amenities, and food options, it could easily become a top-tier destination. The value of the resort is not worth the money we paid for our Honeymoon destination trip. High expectations & low delivery on excitement."

"Restaurants:
The specialty restaurants food was excellent and the service was impeccable. Sapporo -Japanese restaurant was our favorite. The Miramar Buffet was great for breakfast and lunch. The Chefs were constantly looking at the presentation of the food and trays were replaced frequently. The service provided by the staff was commendable. Everyone was eager to help and ensure we had a great experience. There are six resorts in the Barcelo complex. Those staying at the Adults Only could dine in any of the other five resorts restaurants. We were disappointed with the food at La Fuente. Caribe Seafood was great.
Rooms:
The rooms were super spacious and the oceanfront suites had a tub which was very relaxing at the end of the day. The staff kept the rooms very clean and provided anything extra we needed.
Beach and Pools:
The beach and pools had plenty of sitting lounges and shade. We never had to reserve one, but by 10-11 am most of the seats were taken. There was snorkeling in front of the Palace resort beach and the pier, which was great.
Entertainment:
The daily activities included: yoga, stretching, meditation, water aerobics, etc. Some hours of the day there was a DJ by the pool.
The nightly entertainment was after 9:30 pm. Between 7:30-9:30 there was no much going on. The karaoke was fun at 8 pm twice a week. The bingo was not entertaining, it should be done at a different time and area. Most of the shows were 40-45 minutes and were good, except the Cuban Salsa group which was too loud and not synchronized.
Everyone was very attentive and provided excellent service to make our vacation memorable. This is our second visit to Barcelo Maya Riviera and we also stayed at the Palace seven years ago. Of all the All inclusive resorts we have stayed, this one is by far the best. We are already planning to go back next year."
