What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Guests rave about the breathtaking sea views and the warm, heartfelt hospitality of the hosts at Balšića Tower. Its prime location within the historic old town offers a unique and memorable experience. However, the challenging uphill access and inconsistent Wi-Fi are points of consideration for some visitors.
"The hotel is located in the old town of Ulcinj, right at the edge of the castle. The view is absolutely breathtaking! Waking up to the Adriatic Sea right outside your window is an unforgettable experience. Just a heads-up: to reach the hotel, you’ll need to climb a 100-150 meter uphill path with stairs. It’s not ideal for people with mobility issues or wheelchair users.
We stayed on the upper floor. The room was clean, well-organized, and had everything we needed: a small fridge, kettle, TV, nightstands, and a wardrobe. The bathroom was sufficient, but there was no hair dryer - I think that’s something they could add. The terrace had a table, chairs, and a comfy swinging chair where you can relax and enjoy the view.
Wi-Fi worked well in the room, but the signal was weak on the terrace. In the restaurant area, there was no signal at all. So if you plan to work remotely or spend time on your laptop, that’s something to keep in mind.
Breakfast was tasty and varied. For dinner, I tried the pizza at the hotel’s restaurant, but I wasn’t too impressed. The menu also includes soup, salad, risotto, meat, and fish options. On average, dinner costs around €15 per person. Drinks - whether hot, cold, or alcoholic - range from €5 to €10 depending on your choice.
The hotel is run by an Albanian couple who are genuinely sweet and warm-hearted. The staff were also friendly and helpful. You can communicate easily in English, Albanian, French, Bosnian, Serbian, and Croatian.
Rooms are cleaned daily, and fresh towels are provided. Laundry service is also available. There’s also a small restaurant located on the edge of the castle with a sea view - it’s a perfect spot to have a drink and enjoy the scenery.
All in all, it was a peaceful, historic, and heartfelt experience. There are a few small things that could be improved, but overall, I was very satisfied.
Big thanks to the lovely couple who run the place and greeted us with a smile every day, the friendly lady who kept our room clean, and the kind waitstaff. We truly appreciate everything! 🙏🏻♥️"

"We ate pizza and didn’t like it at all!! It was poorly baked, with ham that seemed bought at the market, yet the price was 13€ which is crazy. The service was good and the view nice, but I wouldn’t eat pizza there. Also apperol was like 70% water 🤣🤦🏻♂️ We suffered from gluten 48hours from this pizza."

Unfortunately, due to the historic nature of the old town and the uphill path with stairs, Balšića Tower is not ideal for wheelchair users or those with significant mobility impairments.

For Different Travelers
Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
While the historic ambiance is appealing, the Wi-Fi limitations might be a concern for keeping children entertained. The restaurant offers a varied menu, but it's wise to check if specific dishes cater well to younger palates. The stunning sea views, however, can be a captivating element for all ages.
🚶♀️ Solo Travelers & Couples
Embrace the charm of the historic setting and the opportunity to disconnect, as Wi-Fi can be spotty. The uphill access adds to the secluded feel, perfect for those who enjoy a bit of adventure. Enjoying a sunset drink on the terrace is highly recommended for a romantic evening.
🚶♂️ Budget Travelers
Be prepared for the uphill walk, which means you might save on taxi fares if you're arriving without excessive luggage. The potential for spotty Wi-Fi also means you might rely less on data plans, further contributing to cost savings.

The Historic Charm of Balšića Tower
The location is arguably its greatest asset. Perched at the edge of the castle, it offers unparalleled vistas of the shimmering Adriatic Sea. This historic setting is perfect for travelers seeking an authentic and atmospheric stay, away from the more modern tourist hubs. It’s a place where you can feel the history around you, making it a memorable destination for those who appreciate heritage and stunning natural beauty.
Navigating the Terrain and Connectivity
In terms of connectivity, guests should be aware that Wi-Fi signals can be variable. While generally functional in the rooms, the signal tends to weaken on the terrace and is often unavailable in the restaurant area. For travelers who depend on a stable internet connection for work or staying in touch, it's advisable to prepare for potential periods of being offline or to seek out alternative spots with better reception.
Culinary Experiences and Hospitality
However, some visitors have expressed disappointment with specific items, particularly the pizza and certain drinks, noting issues with preparation and quality. While the sea view from the restaurant and terrace is undeniably a major draw, it's worth noting that for culinary purists, exploring local eateries in Ulcinj might also be a good option to complement your stay. The average dinner cost is around €15 per person, with drinks ranging from €5 to €10.
