What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the authentic and invigorating hammam experience, particularly praising the skilled attendants like Rashid for their thorough scrubs and massages. The affordability and local feel are major draws. Some find the scrub intense, and language barriers can be a minor hurdle, but the overall consensus is overwhelmingly positive.
"You can find another hammam, but you will never find another hammam master like Rashid. The street entrance is for women, men entrance is a little to left side and it goes down. There are no board or writings - just closed doors, but it's open - they're just preparing for customers. For a scrub, massage and scrubing with soap price is 120 MAD. You pay directly to Rashid. And let me tell you - Rashid will test mobility of your joints and muscles. At one point he even lifted me up with his feet in the air, so... just know that you're getting a whole 45 min. yoga lesson there. Bring your own towel, soap, loofah (if you have it) and a something you can lie (locals had this plastic thin matress. I guess you can buy it around there somewhere, but one of local guys just lended his own matress to me) on when Rashid massages and scrubs you. Overall - don't leave the city without coming here. Been there at around 10:15 on a sunday."

"Amazing local experience. Paid 150 for soap, exfoliating gloves, towel and 45 ish minutes scrub/massage experience. Felt very respectful and local. Would go again!
Hours aren’t exactly that but close enough!"

Maestro Rachid will take care of you. 100mad for a massage."

The Hammam Ritual: More Than Just a Scrub
After the scrub, you'll be rinsed, and many hammams offer a subsequent massage. This can range from a simple oil massage to a more therapeutic session. The entire experience is designed to leave you feeling physically cleansed and mentally relaxed. It’s a communal activity, so expect to share the space with locals and other travelers, fostering a unique cultural immersion. Remember to bring your own towel, soap, and shampoo to enhance your comfort and potentially save on rental fees.
For men, specific evening hours are often recommended for a more tranquil experience, typically from around 8 PM to midnight. This timing allows for a less crowded and more personal session with the attendant. While communication might involve gestures, the attendants are skilled at guiding you through each step of the ritual, ensuring you receive the full benefits of the hammam.
