"For those coming from Muslim dominated Kargil and Srinagar, Mulbekh is the first encounter with the Buddhist culture. The Chamba Statue here is a striking enormous figure carved into the rock face on the right hand side of the road. It pictures a standing Maitreya Buddha overlooking the old trade route and modern highway. Some people believe it dates to the Khushan period. Unfortunately, the lower part of the statue is partly obscured by a small temple built in 1975."

"Small road side monastery of the rock cut figure. To me this clearly seems to be the figure of Lord Shiva with four arms & holy thread ( janeu) around his shoulder but it's being presented as future Buddha.
I mean this doesn't bother me but it seems it's being misguided at this place.
Still worth visiting and you have to pay the entrance fee of Rs 20 to enter the rock cut temple."
