Twyfelfontein from above. A wide landscape shaped by time. Hidden below are stories carved in stone: more than 2,500 rock engravings made thousands of years ago. They show giraffes, lions, oryx, and even sea lions, telling of old rituals, spirit journeys, and life in this dry valley. Reviews Summary

Twyfelfontein is lauded for its incredible ancient rock art and its status as a UNESCO World Heritage site, offering a unique glimpse into prehistoric life. Visitors appreciate the knowledgeable guides and the stunning desert scenery. However, some find the entrance fee and mandatory guide costs to be high for the perceived value, particularly if not deeply interested in anthropology.

"Absolutely amazing, the tour took about an hour, but with getting tickets, walking up to the site etc, probs budget two hours.

Our tour guide was lovely, really knowledgeable and great at engaging with us and the kiddies. He talked about the carving, but was also happy to discuss the local wildlife (especially big cats) and his Damara heritage. So we learnt about a lot more than just the carving.

Excellent, would recommend."

Mel Lacey

"It is an absolute waste of time and money. Entrance per person is 270 NAD. You also give tips to the guide on top of it.

But this is not about money, it’s about the experience, which is really poor. There’s just burning sun, sand, rocks and a bunch of engravings that have zero value to you unless you’re obsessed with anthropology.

Don’t recommend. You’ll be disappointed.

Burnt mountain and organ pipes - another 500 NAD from our vehicle for experience that is not worth even the time spent on getting there."

Alec Bedzir

"The museum is difficult to access for people with knee problems, as it requires climbing. Overall, there isn’t much to see inside."
