What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the incredible wildlife viewing opportunities and the surreal beauty of the Etosha Pan, describing it as a 'must-visit' and 'best park ever.' The sheer abundance of animals at the waterholes is a consistent highlight. However, some find the vastness of the pan monotonous if not actively seeking wildlife, and extreme heat can be a challenge.
"A dominating landscape at Etosha NP is the Etosha Pan, a vast salt pan that extends for over 120 kilometres from east to west. You will encounter the pan from time to time during game drives where you will see endless baked white clay of an ancient lake extending endlessly into the distance.
The Etosha Pan is is a unique and dramatic scene, one that you will want to stop and enjoy for a few minutes if you have any interest at all in geography, geology and/or landscapes. There a handful of driving routes within the NP that come close to the Pan so you can stop your vehicle and have a look.
Spend a few minutes scanning the horizon of the Etosha Pan and you might start to notice small dots. If you have powerful binoculars, have a look. These are likely ostriches or oryx... perhaps a zebra walking the pan! You just wonder why they are so far into the pan and where they are going? Its all part of the intrigue of this particular section of the Etosha National Park."
