What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the unique wabi-sabi atmosphere and the profound sense of peace found at the Monastic Zone West. The serene gardens and the opportunity for mindful reflection are highly praised. While not a place for ceremonies, its tranquil environment and the welcoming nature of the staff, especially for overnight stays, make it a deeply grounding and recommended experience for those seeking simplicity and harmony.
"The Japanese Monastery has Wabi-sabi atmosphere which means from Wikipedia is “In traditional Japanese aesthetics, wabi-sabi (侘び寂び) centers on the acceptance of transience and imperfection.[2] It is often described as the appreciation of beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete".[3] It is prevalent in many forms of Japanese art.[4][5]”.
Also it has beautiful and peaceful garden around monastery.
The monks usually are not there, but I really recommend to visit there, because of wabi-sabi atmosphere which is very unique and difference from another temple’s atmosphere.
You can stay the house for a few days with donations, if the staff allows. The staffs are very nice. You might be able to find something special which you can not get such things with normal life….."

"Very grounded, green and organic place to connect with Buddhism, like minded people and terai culture. We (me and my wife) stayed here for 2 days and the vibe was amazing. Homely food; space and materials to work out if u exercise; beautiful garden to lay down and also get your hands in the mud if your interested in gardening. Highly recommended experience."

"Stayed here for 2 nights. Three good meals provided, hot water for shower, nice yard with green grass, a cute puppy and three geese - it’s like a home! Saud, the manager, and other helpers are taking good take of the place and the guests. No ceremony here but it’s such a cozy place to just sit under the sun and enjoy the present. Highly recommend this place to anyone who visits Lumbini. Better contact Saud to make reservation in advance as beds are limited."
