"A very interesting and educational experience. The exhibition is well organized and offers a deep insight into the human body in a unique and scientific way. The displays are impressive, detailed, and thought-provoking, making it suitable for both adults and curious visitors.
The location is central and easy to reach, and the place is clean and well maintained. It’s a great visit if you enjoy science, anatomy, or something different from the usual museums.
⚠️ Note: Some sections might feel intense for sensitive visitors, so it’s not for everyone, but overall it’s definitely worth the visit at least once."

"This was fascinating, and something I've always wanted to see. To see how a body really looks and works was incredible. The museum is really well displayed & informative, and interactive too which was good. Only thing I will say I maintenence wise it needs a little refresh. Couple of things not working, lot of marks/scuffs in places and the toilets were not very clean. But dont let that stop you visiting somewhere which will change the way you see yourself"

"Really cool museum! I loved how it connects the human body with the idea of happiness, it makes the whole experience more meaningful. The displays are super interesting (and a bit mind-blowing!) but done in a really respectful way. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Amsterdam and want to see something different!"

The Art and Science of Plastination
This method is crucial for the museum's mission, providing a durable and detailed educational tool. Unlike traditional preservation methods, plastination allows for the specimens to be displayed in lifelike poses, making the anatomical learning experience more engaging and relatable. The donor program is central to this, ensuring a continuous supply of specimens for scientific and educational purposes.
Visitors often express awe at the clarity and preservation of the bodies. It's a testament to the scientific innovation behind plastination, transforming the way we can study and appreciate human anatomy. The ethical considerations and the dedication of the donors are also highlighted, adding a layer of respect to the experience.
The 'Happiness Project' - More Than Just Anatomy
This unique angle transforms the museum from a purely scientific exhibit into a more personal and reflective experience. Visitors are encouraged to consider their own lifestyles and how they can foster happiness for better health. The displays often connect anatomical structures to the physiological responses associated with happiness, making the science accessible and relevant.
Many visitors find this aspect particularly impactful, as it offers actionable insights into improving their lives. It's a reminder that understanding our bodies isn't just about knowing the parts, but also about understanding how our mental state affects our physical state. The museum aims to educate and inspire visitors to live healthier, happier lives.
Navigating the Museum and Visitor Experience
While the museum is generally well-maintained, some reviews mention minor issues with upkeep in certain areas, such as scuff marks or non-functional interactive elements. However, these are usually minor points and don't detract significantly from the overall impressive experience. The central location makes it easy to access, and the staff are typically helpful.
It's important to note that the intensity of the exhibits means it's not for everyone. Visitors with a strong aversion to medical or anatomical displays might find it challenging. However, for those interested in science, anatomy, or a truly unique perspective on the human body, BODY WORLDS Amsterdam is a highly recommended and memorable visit.
