Reviews Summary

De Vaart Canal offers psychological services with mixed reviews. While some patients praise the professionalism and support of their therapists, particularly for gender programs, many others report significant issues with scheduling, communication, and administrative efficiency. The facility's financial focus and strict cancellation policy are also points of concern for some visitors. Reddit+3

"First, the secretary, for 3 months, postpones visits, every two weeks, saying that your specialist is busy with his own affairs. And he does this exactly one day before, when work has already asked for time off. And 3 months later, when you call them and explain the situation and ask to replace the specialist since yours is unavailable, they simply stop picking up the phone. LOL"

"Friendly, professional, supportive psychologists. However, communication with patients is terrible.

One day you have your appointment next week, then the next day they cancel it and reschedule it a month after. I have to keep calling to ask for clarification, and the administration people don't seem to know either. Then they gave me an estimate of three months. Then suddenly they called me one afternoon saying they have a spot tomorrow.

Really need to fix the communication style. The emotional rollercoaster from 1) hopeful for having care to 2) grieving for seemingly sudden delayed care to 3) sudden appointment scheduled very soon is very tiring to deal with, especially since people seeking help will already have emotional problems.

If you're an international seeking help, esp looking into other comments for gender transition: learn Dutch. The people taking calls don't speak English at all."

"Bad experience. Initially, a "treatment plan" was drawn up with an intake psychologist and a coordinating psychologist. That was fine. Treatment was with a different psychologist, which I stopped after four sessions. I'll share what I've done the past week with my supervisor. There was absolutely no experience and no plan, not even after the second and third sessions when I asked. It was strange then that I quit. No in-depth understanding of my situation and no preparation. They just grabbed overviews from the internet and submitted them very sloppily, questionnaires found online provided what wasn't discussed and didn't clarify the intentions based on personal experience, and they couldn't inspire trust because it was simply substandard. This is a shame. The (very late) response from the complaints officer was also a sham. No, this was a huge disappointment, and especially the way my complaints were handled was a sign of incompetence. Fortunately, you come back stronger on your own, because if a psychologist doesn't live up to your expectations, it strengthens me. I can manage perfectly well without this help, because I had overestimated this support. Unfortunately for De Vaart, sessions that fill the tills without progressing further don't seem like good advertising to me. Hopefully, other people will find better psychologists there, because I think they do exist..."
