Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Ruïnekerk as a beautiful and historically significant landmark in the heart of Bergen. Its unique blend of ruins and rebuilt sections, along with well-maintained grounds, creates a peaceful and impressive atmosphere. While most experiences are positive, one reviewer noted an extremely unfriendly encounter with a church employee, which detracted from the sense of peace.

"Old Church from Bergen - Inaugurated in 1574"

Marcos Timm

"In the heart of the village of Bergen, nestled between old houses, we find this magnificent building.

This church originally dates back to the 15th century.
The church was burned down by fire during the Eighty Years' War.
The ruins were later partially rebuilt. This is clearly visible on site. Today, the church has been declared a national monument.

The grounds are very beautiful and well-maintained. The transition from the ruins to the new building is particularly interesting and impressive.

There are also several seating areas here where you can quietly listen to the beautiful church bells.

A truly wonderful place steeped in history."

Jan

"The landmark of Bergen, the focal point of the village, and, of course, beautiful.
We saw a lot of decorations during the 2024/25 Christmas season. There wasn't so much decoration here in the past."
