What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise De Muy for its beautiful and varied natural landscapes, including dunes, heathland, and a unique dune lake. It's considered a great place to escape and enjoy peaceful walks. However, some find the unpaved terrain challenging, especially with strollers.
"The Muy is a regular feature of my half marathons. After two kilometers of dunes, you'll reach the North Sea. If you then turn right, you'll be in the Slufter after 1.5 kilometers!"
Wim Ploeg
"The De Muy nature reserve is a landscape of varied dunes, heathland, and grasslands, as well as the De Muyplas dune lake.
The Wadden Islands were formed during the Ice Age. A large ice mass pushed enormous mounds of boulder clay forward. This advancing boulder clay formed into relatively high hills. After the Ice Age, the ice mass melted, causing sea levels to rise. The water enclosed the hills of boulder clay, and the Wadden Islands, including Texel, were formed.
Subsequently, humans have had a significant impact on Texel's landscape. As the island's population grew, dikes were built to reclaim land. The constructed dikes suffered numerous breaches. One breach created a large channel near the Muy.
After the breach in the dike was sealed, the Muy valley was formed. The later creation of larger drifting dunes made the valleys wetter. The water remained and formed the dune lake De Muy."
