Moving to Amsterdam for kiting - Experiences?
Hello! I've (29M) decided to move from Sweden to Amsterdam in order to kite more. We have a small but devoted kite scene in Sweden and I love kiting here (even though it's dark, cold and gusty most of the year) but I got an opportunity to choose my place of work and Amsterdam…

What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Katwijk Lighthouse Vuurbaak for its rich history and the engaging insights provided by passionate volunteers. The panoramic views from the top are a significant draw, offering beautiful vistas of the town and the North Sea. While some find the lighthouse smaller than expected, the overall experience is highly recommended, especially when combined with the charming nearby beach.
"Built around 1605 this national monument ‘Vuurbaak’ (translation: fire beacon) is one of the oldest lighthouses in The Netherlands. Originally wood was burnt in a basket on top of the flat roof of the tower. Mid 19th century it was replaced by an oil lamp with a reflector. The light was turned on only at times when the fisherman’s fleet of Katwijk left the harbour.
Since 1912 there is no more function for it as there were no more ships returning from the sea to Katwijk. During World War I it was used as a military observation post for the Dutch army and in World War II as a machine gun post by the German occupiers.(part of the Atlantik Wall)
You can visit the lighthouse from Tuesday to Saturday, from 10 A.M. to 17 P.M. during the summer months (June - July - August)."

"Our visit proved to be very interesting. The volunteers on duty explained the history of the lighthouse very well and provided us with a leaflet in English. This is one of the two oldest buildings left in Katwijk. The other is the old church. Highly recommended"

"Pretty mid, thought it was gonna be bigger, but cool nonetheless. The boat next to it was more interesting btw."
