"Inner City Cemetery
This oldest cemetery in Tilburg is located on Bredaseweg and was constructed by order of the French government between 1811 and 1813, at that time outside the built-up area. Initially, it was a public cemetery. In 1832, it was largely sold to the parish of 't Heike. Until 1930, there was still a Protestant section (Gilzerbaan cemeteries). In 1974, the unique gallery of saints' statues and the Calvary (from 1865) were added to the national monuments list. In 2001, 24 grave monuments were added to that list. Three of Tilburg's four burial chapels are located in this cemetery. Many well-known Tilburg families and other prominent Tilburg residents have their graves here, such as: Thomas van Dooren related to William II – the oldest grave monument, Marietje Kessels Calvary on the left – lies between parents and grandparents.

LEANDRE PETIT
Leandre Petit, born February 28, 1841, in Arquennes, died February 9, 1909, in Tilburg. Anna M. Claassen, daughter of Herbergier, born July 28, 1842, died September 16, 1915. This cemetery contains many national and grave monuments of historical significance. Many were made by the man who lies buried here: Leandre Petit. The L. Petit company was a stonemason's shop on Tuistraat and Langstraat in Tilburg. It was founded by L. Petit in 1865 at the age of 23."
