What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Duck Island offers a convenient and beautiful island escape near Nouméa, praised for its clear waters and abundant marine life perfect for snorkeling. However, visitors often find the on-site dining and amenities to be overpriced and limited, leading many to recommend bringing their own supplies. The sharp coral on the beaches also necessitates caution and appropriate footwear.
"So far the yellow water taxi combo with beach chairs and umbrella is reasonable value. Problem is you are captive here. At the mercy of the single restaurant for food and drinks. They have nothing available on their drinks menu of beer except for 1 type of Havannah blanche, that's it! . No beer on tap!! 400metres from the shore of the mainland and they can't be bothered to bring over any supplies 🙄
Our chicken wings and chips were OK, but I would be careful what food you choose. The fries/frites were okay. The chicken was slightly underdone... I'll report back later on the repercussions, if any 😅
Unfortunately there is the air of complete disinterest and hopefully someone with some money will come and invest and make this island a place that people want to come to."

"Un impressed. Took glass bottom boat 1000xpf return then had to pay 2500xpf each for sun lounge that’s $68 aud for two!! Disgusting, and you don’t get waited on for that fee either! Still had to go to bar. Over priced, wanted to buy brunch/snack food but told buffet only that day. Recommend taking own food and drinks. We snorkelled Ilot Maitre earlier in the week and that was amazing so doing this second was nothing compared. Sharp coral. Walked a lap,One side of island looks like dumping ground for restaurant, and you get swooped by seagulls. Pay additional for snorkel hire can’t remember how much, enough to break the bank. Take the yellow taxi boat with umbrella package for 2500xpf. Ends up being cheaper and comes and goes more often if you decide to leave early. I recommend skipping this island and doing ilot Maitre instead."

"In town on a cruise ship. Purchased hop on hop off bus ticket which included water taxi to duck Island. Bit of a wait for taxi to island and back. Quick 5 min water taxi across. Island was packed with all umbrellas taken. No toilet or changing rooms on site. One Cafe and restaurant which had quite a line. The beach was nice but must have water shoes as lots of sharp coral on the beach. Heaps of water life which was great for snorkelling. Nice day out but all just ok not amazing"
