Reviews Summary

Place des Cocotiers is widely praised as the vibrant heart of Nouméa, offering a welcoming atmosphere with ample shade and a central hub for local life. Visitors particularly enjoy the bustling Thursday market and the relaxed ambiance perfect for people-watching and picnics. Some find the area can get crowded during peak times or events.

"Thursday markets!!! I didn’t see a mention of Thursday markets anywhere in any of the tourism literature for Noumea, and we stumbled on them by accident. So interesting, it’s clearly where the locals do their buying and selling of fruit, vegetables, fish, meat, pot plants, flowers, clothes, cut flowers and plants, jam, pickles, and loads of locally produced takeaway food for breakfast or lunch. There were a few cruise ship tourists but not many. We had a great time."

"Place des Cocotiers is like the heart of Noumea. It's this huge square surrounded by tall coconut trees, and it's always buzzing with activity. The ocean view is just stunning, perfect for watching the sunset. There are tons of restaurants and cafes around, so you can grab a bite to eat or a coffee and just chill. And there's always something going on, like festivals or markets. I could spend hours just people-watching and soaking up the atmosphere. Coming from Thailand, which is so far away, I really wish my hometown had a beautiful square like this."

"We had an amazing day in Numea. City Park was the first place when we got off the shuttle bus. The location was great. The views were amazing. There was a lot of friendly people to greet us and let us know what was available to do. Bus tours and train bus tours etc. The park was child and wheelchair friendly. Overall a great place"
