What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Māngere Mountain for its accessible walking trails, stunning panoramic views, and free entry, making it a great spot for a leisurely stroll or a sunset picnic. While the natural beauty and community feel are highlights, some note the limited shade and the rather uninviting state of the on-site toilets.
"What a place to visit and walk around. We have an hour to walk around the summit. You can walk a further distance of you have enough time and
strength.
It's a really open and wide volcano areas and not much shaded. I'm thinking might not be good on summer time.
Toilet, playground and parking available."

""A Chill Volcano That Won’t Explode (Hopefully)"
Mangere Mountain is the kind of place that makes you say, “Wait, this used to be a volcano?!” A super easy loop walk, under an hour if you don’t stop for 200 photos. Kid-friendly, ankle-friendly, and lazy-friendly — this one’s for everyone.
The hike is green, photogenic, and mildly breezy, with a view at the top that rewards you like a free Wi-Fi zone after a data drought. There’s plenty of parking space — but be warned, the toilet near the car park looks like it was designed for horror movie scenes. Enter if you dare. 👻🚽
At the bottom, there’s a neat little playground and a skate park too — great if your kids have energy while you pretend to “supervise” on a bench with snacks. Also an awesome spot to just chill, read, or dramatically stare into the distance.
Short hike, big views, mysterious toilet. 10/10 would return (with a flashlight).
"Logan was here — one hill, one thrill, one suspiciously dark toilet.""

"I often go for a walk there with my partner. The air is fresh, the views are beautiful, the people are friendly, they smile and greet each other when we pass each other. It is a worthwhile walk and it is free. It is a well-maintained and developed mountain."
