What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Punga Cove is praised for its stunning Marlborough Sounds location, exceptional food, and friendly staff, offering a memorable escape. Some guests noted the steep hillside layout and occasional maintenance needs in rooms, but the overall experience is highly positive, with many eager to return.
"The location was lovely, but settled on quite a steep location. Compared to our previous accommodation stop, walking uphill to our room was hard as it seemed it was the furthest from the entry. Would have loved a trip in the golf buggy! Reception was average, it wasn't warm or inviting, but I can tell you the right greeting does make all the difference to your first impression.
We did appreciate that we were close to the restaurant and I want to acknowledge the French wait staff who served us, he was so accommodating, friendly and lifted the overall customer experience - please acknowledge this young man for us.
The food was nice, not outstanding, but it was enjoyable. Some constructive feedback for the young Maori woman wait staff, perhaps ask your customers if they will be staying for dessert after they have finished their mains - we were halfway through, and have no idea how we would feel after we finished. Not a biggie, it was just just odd timing.
The room we were in was in need of maintenance. There was black mould growing behind the bathroom door where there looked to have been a leak for sometime. Also the sliding door exit from the shared kitchen had serious erosion in the floor under the lino - suspected water ingress - highly recommend getting this looked at as the floor literally gives way as you step inside."

"Had a lovely stay at Punga Cove this weekend 🥰 All of the staff were super lovely and went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. The room was very clean and had an amazing view. We went kayaking for a couple hours which was beautiful. The food at the restaurant was amazing and the chef and waiter both provided excellent service. Can’t recommend Punga Cove enough. We will definitely be back ❤️"
