"I saw this movie when I was a wee child in the middle of the night on TV and then got a copy of it when I was 13 by a cool couple moving out of my apartment complex as a going away present. It definitely made an impact on me. It was super cool to see a statue of Riff Raff while I was in NZ. Lovely statue in front of the museum."

He is said to have been inspired by the years he spent watching the Late Night Double Feature Picture Show at The Embassy Theatre (which previously stood on the site) and "cutting hair and daydreaming" in the barber shop out the front, precisely where the statue now stands.
