Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Te Mata Estate for its rich history, exceptional wines, and personal tasting experiences, often highlighting interactions with the knowledgeable family staff. While the cellar door can feel a bit cramped at times, the overall sentiment is overwhelmingly positive, with many recommending it as a must-visit in Hawke's Bay. InstagramReddit

"Our wine tasting at Te Mata was a lovely experience. The lady that served us was very friendly, informing us of the history of the area and the estate. We had a lovely chat whilst trying some beautiful wines. My son loved seeing the sheep and highland cows."

Rachel Harrison

"A decent wine tasting experience at Te Mata estate. We tried their typical mix flight for tasting. Unfortunately the cellar door is a bit cramped."

Kai

"Te Mata was the first winery we visited on our three week trip around New Zealand. The first of 20. And it was, by far, one of the most personal and informative. We had the pleasure of a personal tasting with Zara Buck, a member of the family, who grew up on the vineyard. The wine is excellent, and we especially enjoyed the stories about the names given to some of the varieties. Even the Highland coos have a story. We highly recommend making an appointment for a tasting. But, at the very least, stop at the cellar door."
