The opportunity for gold panning in the Waimea Stream is a major highlight, with many reporting success. The lack of cell reception is seen as a positive for digital detox. "A very cute and secluded campsite, 10mins from the main road. It has a beautiful rock stream down a walking path to look at some cool rocks.
There were many weka birds around, sadly we saw one that was very injured with a twisted leg. Hopefully DOC can find the bird and get it some help as it was quite sad and distressing.
The campsite had an amazing toilet facility block with 3 flushable toilets and a sink to wash dishes.
Top quality for a bush campsite"

Georgie Whittle

"This campsite is secluded and very peaceful. There were not a lot of other campers and the bathrooms have toilets and sinks with running water. There is a short walk from the site to the nearby stream where you can go panning if you want. The site is surrounded by woods which was nice. The stars were beautiful when there was a break in the rain overnight. There were a few kiwi out and about in the morning."

"Didn't end up staying the night here but was successfully able to obtain gold from the river. Highly recommend to anyone panning for gold."
