If you are in a 4x4, you could continue down Hakatere Road and visit Mount Sunday, where they filmed Lord of the Rings, but beware, the road is in poor condition and there is no phone signal. 360 degrees of stunning views of mountain ranges, plunging escarpments and peace and quiet, make this brilliant walking country.
