The nearby Mahinapua Hotel is a hit for its dog-friendly beer garden and relaxed vibe. Some find the DOC campsite facilities basic, particularly the showers, but appreciate its affordability and tranquility.

"Beautiful views! We stayed on the DOC campsite for 1 night, cost $13 per person. The toilets were very basic but fairly clean. The showers, we couldn’t work out how to use these, or even if they worked full stop. It was a very quite peaceful place. They do check that you have paid here so make sure you get your camping ticket etc."
