"From the car park, it takes about 30 minutes to reach Kea Point after a fairly easy walk that anyone who is in normal shape, can do. It is just a little bit uphill.
We were unfortunate and saw clouds the whole time. When there are no clouds, the views must be phenomenal.
At the viewpoint there are a few benches where you can eat your lunch at."

"Easy and short hike with fantastic views. If hooker valley is too long and crowded for your taste, kea point is a good alternative, although Hooked Valley is still quite a bit better in my opinion, if it wasn’t for the sea of tourists, but hey, I’m one of them so can’t complain 🤷🏻♀️ we brought pizza from the store Edmund Hillary cafe at the hermitage, although the pizza was cold when we arrived, it was still delicious after a hike 😂👍"

Comparing Kea Point to Hooker Valley Track
In contrast, the Kea Point Track is a shorter, easier walk (about 1 hour return from the car park) with a slight incline. It leads to a viewpoint overlooking the Mueller Glacier and offers stunning vistas of Mount Sefton and Aoraki/Mount Cook. Many visitors find Kea Point to be a fantastic alternative if they have less time, are looking for a less strenuous option, or if the Hooker Valley Track is closed for maintenance.
While the Hooker Valley Track provides a more immersive glacial lake experience, Kea Point offers a more accessible and often less crowded way to appreciate the grandeur of the Southern Alps. Both are highly recommended for their unique perspectives on this magnificent landscape.
The Glacial Landscape of Kea Point
The destination, Kea Point, provides a vantage point to observe the Mueller Glacier and its terminal lake. Glaciers are rivers of ice that slowly flow downhill, carving out valleys and transporting vast amounts of rock and debris. The meltwater from these glaciers forms the often milky-blue glacial lakes, a common sight in this region. The views here are a constant reminder of the ongoing geological processes that continue to sculpt the Southern Alps.
